There are a lot of stories about how it was invented, but our favourite is that in the early 1940s in Tijuna, Mexico a barman by the name of Enrique Bastate Gutierrez created the drink as a homage to a dancer at the club where he worked. This dancers name was Margarita Cansino (later better known by her stage name, Rita Hayworth)
